Taylor 814CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar SN 1210063005
Taylor's flagship Grand Auditorium boasts unparalleled sonic delights, thanks in part to their groundbreaking V-Class bracing architecture. The classic tonewood combination of Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce still delivers its characteristic blend of warmth, low-end presence, and high-range sparkle, but V-Class bracing elevates that tone to new heights. Notes sustain longer, allowing rosewood’s rich overtones to bloom with more clarity than ever, and the advanced bracing scheme introduces greater power and tunefulness across the entire tonal spectrum for a rich and expressive sound.

Grand Auditorium body style
Taylor’s most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium produces an original acoustic voice that is big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming. It offers an impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GA’s overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. If you want a great all-purpose guitar that can cover a variety of styles, this model is a worthy investment.
Solid Sitka Spruce Top
As a guitar soundboard, or top, Sitka spruce is the tonewood standard of the modern era. It’s used on 85-90 percent of the guitars that Taylor makes. Its combination of strength and elasticity translates into a broad dynamic range, yielding crisp articulation and allowing for everything from aggressive strumming and flatpicking to fingerpicking. Sitka spruce is Bob Taylor’s personal favorite for an all-around great guitar.
Taylor’s innovative V-Class bracing allows an acoustic guitar top to be both stiff and flexible in ways that produce more volume and sustain than traditional X-bracing. In creating V-Class, Taylor has introduced a style of bracing that not only increases the volume and sustain of the guitar, but improves the intonation by eliminating interference that causes some notes to waver and sound slightly out of tune. Taylors ultimate goal has been reached in making a top bracing that allows players to play more expressively with less effort.
Solid Indian rosewood back and sides
Indian rosewood’s sweeping frequency range at both ends of the tonal spectrum has made it one of the most popular and musically rich tonewoods. If you like a guitar with fuller low end and brighter treble, rosewood will do the trick. Its high-end sizzle and clear articulation will benefit players with “dark hands”. One can fingerpick it, strum it and flatpick it. It’s very consistent, so players can rely on it to deliver.
Standard on all of Taylor’s “ce” models in the 300 Series through the Presentation Series, the Venetian cutaway is known for its soft, round lines. The sloping peak of the cutaway will vary depending on the shape of the guitar. The cutaway on this Grand Auditorium offers a steeper slope, creating a dynamic look, while providing the room you need to play the upper registers.
