Performers, educators, and students of all levels know the brand Kawai and their reputation for building high-quality acoustic pianos. That "know-how" was the basis for the launch of their first digital piano in 1986.
Since then, Kawai has continued to innovate, and today's models are astonishing! Alongside the developments with hardware, Kawai also offers several apps to help with learning, enjoyment, and operation of their digitals.
Piano Remote
(iOS/Android)Piano Remote is a multi-function app that allows you to select various pianos and other sounds within the instrument. You can adjust Virtual Technician parameters such as brilliance, string resonance, damper noise, and more.
The app lists all available sounds within the instrument for easy access, and you can control the split and layer functions instantly. The music player section provides a simple way to select, listen to, and engage with the piano's internal song library.
The built-in metronome helps with your practice sessions, while the recording function can record song files in both audio and MIDI formats, which can then be saved, uploaded to the cloud, and shared.
PiaBookPlayer
(iOS/Android)The PiaBookPlayer app lets you view the notated scores of the many classical lesson pieces and practice drills built into your instrument.
Browse through the composers to find your song, play, and view it. You can mark songs as your "favorites" for faster access.
For instruments with a triple pedal unit, the app allows you to use your pedals to turn the digital pages, thereby keeping your hands on the keys!
Virtual Technician
(iPad)With access to 16 unique parameters, Virtual Technician allows you to learn about and digitally adjust every component of your piano's sound. You'll have complete control over the touch weight, voicing tweaks, hammer and key release noises, fine-tuning, lid position, damper resonances, and more – all in real time. You can save your favorites for instant recall.
Sound Museum
(iPhone)Sound Museum is a musical instrument learning app developed especially for Kawai digital pianos, providing an opportunity for players of all levels to explore the various instrument voices available in their piano. Using the attractive touch interface, players can easily select sounds, read about each instrument's tonal characteristics and suitable musical genre, and listen to professionally recorded demonstration pieces.
The apps described above (and more!) are currently available for either iOS or iOS and Android, as indicated, and compatible with a range of Kawai digital piano models. Be sure to check Kawai's Apps & Software page for the most up-to-date piano model and device/operating system compatibility.
