With the introduction of the PSR-SX620, Yamaha brings their most affordable arranger in line with the upper-level models of the PSR-SX series. The PSR-SX720 and PSR-SX920 saw release toward the end of 2024, with a further update to the PSR-SX720 in the form of the PSR-SX720+ earlier in 2026. However, the now-discontinued PSR-SX600 had been in the line since 2020, making the release of the new PSR-SX620 a welcome development.
For those familiar with the PSR-SX600, the PSR-SX620 carries forward a very similar overall set of features and specifications: 61 keys, a range of over 1,000 instrument Voices, more than 400 preset Styles, built-in auto-accompaniment, an intuitive user interface featuring assignable controllers and real-time Live Control knobs, and Voice & Style Expansion Pack compatibility. Like its predecessor, the PSR-SX620 has the tools to create arrangements of favorite and original songs across a wide range of genres, all with the sound of a full band. The PSR-SX620, like the PSR-SX600 before it, brings these capabilities to performers in an accessible package with the sounds, features, and reliability that musicians have come to expect from Yamaha.
What makes the PSR-SX620 worth the wait are the new features that have been added to this entry-level professional arranger platform, and it's more than just a few additions to the Voice and Style list (although that's part of it, too!).
One of the first things you may notice when looking at the PSR-SX620 is that compared to the PSR-SX600, all of the primary controls are much more centrally-located. Organized into tidy little blocks, the controls for Volume, Voice, Style, Song, Effect, Live Control, Tempo, Registration, Multi Pads, and more are placed directly between the left and right speakers, putting them right in front of you. There's no need to glance side-to-side or to shift your hands away from the center of the keyboard.
The only exception to this is the location of the PSR-SX620's assignable joystick controller, which takes the place of the separate pitch and modulation wheels found on the PSR-SX600. As is standard for most modern keyboard instruments, it is placed to the left side of the keybed. The choice to move away from independent pitch and mod wheels on the PSR-SX620 mimics the PSR-SX720+ and PSR-SX920, both of which have similar multi-directional pitch and modulation joysticks, allowing for rapid trills, expressive pitch bends, and dynamic, real-time modulation.
Another feature the PSR-SX620 has inherited from its elder siblings is the Chord Looper function. Chord Looper allows you to record and loop chord progressions seamlessly, freeing you up to focus on two-handed playing or soloing without having to worry about playing the chords, too. An example of how the PSR-SX620 is "catching up" to the rest of the line, Chord Looper can help unlock creative possibilities for performance, practice, and composition.
Like the higher-end PSR-SX920 and PSR-SX720+, both the PSR-SX600 and PSR-SX620 have a built-in stereo speaker system. And while most performance situations will require the use of additional amplification, the PSR-SX620 boasts an improved speaker design compared to the PSR-SX600. A new internal bass reflex port and enlarged internal sound box design deliver full range speaker sound with improved bass response which will enhance the experience of some smaller gatherings, at-home entertainment sessions, and practice.
And, as it's almost a minimum requirement for keyboards these days, the PSR-SX620 also gets Bluetooth audio streaming to go along with the rest of its list of new features. Stream your favorite songs or the setlist of tunes that you're learning and play along through the PSR-SX620's built-in speakers or headphones.
A welcome addition to the PSR-SX line, the PSR-SX620 moves Yamaha's entry-level pro arranger forward, smoothing out the progression up to the mid-level PSR-SX720+ and all the way to the flagship PSR-SX920. While the PSR-SX620's updates could be described as somewhat incremental, they are nonetheless meaningful, worthwhile, and sure deliver a more enjoyable and creative performance experience.
