Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the Akai Professional MPK Mini Plus II and who is it designed for?
The MPK Mini Plus II is a compact 37-key MIDI keyboard controller with MPC-style pads, assignable controls, and built-in creative performance tools. It’s designed for producers, beatmakers, and musicians who want a portable controller that can sit at the center of a modern production setup, whether at a desk or on the go.
Are the keys on the MPK Mini Plus II full-size or mini keys?
The MPK Mini Plus II uses 37 synth-action mini keys. The upgraded mini keybed is designed for comfort and expressive playability across a three-octave range, giving you more room to play than smaller 25-key controllers while keeping the footprint compact and portable.
Do the MPK Mini Plus II pads have velocity and aftertouch?
Yes, the eight RGB backlit MPC pads are velocity-sensitive and pressure-sensitive with aftertouch. They’re well suited to finger drumming, clip launching, triggering chords, and playing custom progressions. Note that the keys themselves do not have aftertouch.
What creative tools are built into the MPK Mini Plus II?
It includes an expanded arpeggiator along with chord and note repeat modes. Creative functions like Glitch, Mutate, and Strum add variation and movement to your ideas, helping you get unexpected results and move from a rough idea to a finished part faster.
Does the MPK Mini Plus II work with MPC Standalone and MPC Desktop?
Yes. It integrates with both MPC Standalone and MPC Desktop, giving you hands-on access to transport controls, pads, knobs, pitch and mod wheels, plug-in presets, and track navigation.
Can I use the MPK Mini Plus II to control external synths and modular gear?
Yes. In addition to USB, it has a 5-pin MIDI Out for hardware synths and drum machines, and three 1/8" CV/Gate outputs (pitch, gate and mod) for modular and other CV gear. You can drive the CV outputs from the keys, the arpeggiator, the pads or incoming USB MIDI.
Does the MPK Mini Plus II need a power adapter, is it included?
No power adapter is needed; it’s USB bus-powered and ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable.
