About this demo
This Roland FP-40 is a demo unit. A demo unit is an instrument that has been opened either in-house for photos, video, or evaluation, or it was returned by a customer in excellent condition. This instrument has been thoroughly inspected and tested to ensure full functionality. All original accessories are included and a full manufacturer warranty applies. A great opportunity to save on a fully functional product with minimal signs of handling.
The Roland FP-40 digital piano combines Roland's Piano Reality sound engine with a newly engineered speaker system and a genuinely useful set of connected learning tools, making it well suited to players returning to the instrument as well as those picking it up for the first time. The 88-key PHA-4 Standard keyboard uses weighted hammer action with escapement, ivory feel key surfaces, and triple sensor detection, giving players the touch response and repeatability needed for expressive, dynamic playing. Beyond the keyboard action itself, the FP-40 connects to Roland's Piano Sphere app for personalized lessons and progress tracking, and it offers Bluetooth Audio/MIDI and USB-C connectivity for streaming, recording, and mobile integration. Its slim, portable chassis fits easily into apartments, studios, and stage setups where a full size console piano would not. Whether used for daily practice, content creation, or simply enjoying time at the keys, the FP-40 pairs authentic acoustic piano feel with a modern digital piano ecosystem built around it.

Authentic Touch and Tone
The FP-40's PHA-4 Standard keyboard uses weighted hammer action with escapement, giving the keys the same subtle resistance and release a grand piano provides. Ivory feel key surfaces help absorb moisture from the fingertips for secure control during long practice sessions, while triple sensor key detection captures fast repeated notes and subtle dynamic shading that simpler two sensor actions can miss. Combined with the Piano Reality sound engine, this action lets players shape phrasing and touch nuance the way they would on an acoustic instrument.
Sound That Fills the Room
A newly engineered speaker system gives the FP-40 more low end presence and overall clarity than earlier FP series pianos, using dual 12 cm speakers housed in a dedicated speaker box. Paired with 256-voice polyphony and 305 internal tones, the piano renders dense passages and layered tones without notes dropping out. Ambience and Brilliance effects add further shaping, and Piano Designer settings accessed through the Roland Piano App allow deeper adjustment of resonance, temperament, and tonal character.
Built to Connect
Bluetooth 5.4 and built-in Wi-Fi let the FP-40 pair with the Piano Sphere and Roland Piano App for streaming audio, sending MIDI, and unlocking the full 265-tone library. A USB-C Mobile/PC port handles USB MIDI and audio while also providing USB PD charging for a connected smartphone, and a separate USB-A port plays WAV and MP3 files directly from a flash drive. Headset microphone compatibility rounds out the connectivity, making the FP-40 a practical choice for streaming lessons or recording video content.
A Learning Ecosystem That Keeps Players Motivated
Developed in partnership with Skoove, the Piano Sphere app pairs with the FP-40 to deliver personalized lessons, streak based progress tracking, and a growing library of song content. Activity tracking and tailored recommendations help players build a consistent practice habit rather than losing momentum between sessions. An optional content upgrade unlocks more than 1000 additional song titles for players who want to expand beyond the app's included repertoire.
Compact and Ready to Play
At just over 51 inches wide and under 5 inches deep, the FP-40 fits into apartments, studios, and stage setups where a full size console piano would not. It weighs just under 31 pounds with the music rest attached, making it manageable to move between rooms or transport to a gig. For a more permanent setup, the optional KSF-40 stand and KPD-70 three pedal unit give the FP-40 the look and pedal feel of a traditional upright.

Is the FP-40 a good piano for beginners to learn on?

The free Piano Sphere app adds guided lessons and streak based motivation to keep practice consistent.
Does the FP-40 keyboard feel like a real acoustic piano?

What is the Piano Sphere app, and do I need it to use the FP-40?
