The Hammond XK-7 is a dedicated single-manual tonewheel organ built to deliver the sound, response, and physical feel of a classic Hammond console in a streamlined, performance-ready instrument. Designed around Hammond’s Virtual Electro-Mechanical technology, the XK-7 recreates the complete electromechanical signal path of a vintage tonewheel organ while offering modern control, routing flexibility, and expanded voicing options.
At the core of the XK-7 is Hammond’s VEM sound engine, a physical model derived from original Hammond design specifications. The engine recreates the behavior of a vintage tonewheel organ from generation through amplification, using 108 digital tonewheels routed through a modeled transformer and preamp before reaching either the onboard digital Leslie or a real rotary speaker via the 11-pin Leslie output.
The XK-7 manual is built to the same dimensions and fulcrum point as a classic B-3, delivering the correct leverage and resistance expected from a Hammond console. Each key uses six mechanical contacts, allowing traditional playing techniques such as glissandi, rapid repetition, and percussion-style articulation to respond naturally and consistently.
Detailed tone shaping is available through adjustable tonewheel parameters, dedicated key click and leakage controls, and preamp modeling inspired by vintage AO-series circuits. The enhanced digital Leslie includes adjustable gain, allowing natural overdrive and dynamic response that reacts to playing intensity and drawbar settings.
In addition to its tonewheel engine, the XK-7 includes a comprehensive transistor organ section with Italian, British, and Japanese-inspired models. The pipe organ division offers classical and theatre styles with multiple virtual ranks, voices, and tremulants, extending the instrument beyond traditional tonewheel territory.
A separate bass output can be assigned to pedal tones or configured as a low-pass filtered output for subwoofer reinforcement. A large color display simplifies access to performance parameters and system settings, while onboard DSP effects provide dedicated reverb and delay control directly from the top panel.
