The Hammond XK-7 is a dedicated single-manual tonewheel organ built to deliver the sound, response, and physical feel of a classic Hammond console in a streamlined, performance-ready instrument. Designed around Hammond’s Virtual Electro-Mechanical technology, the XK-7 recreates the complete electromechanical signal path of a vintage tonewheel organ while offering modern control, routing flexibility, and expanded voicing options.
At the core of the XK-7 is Hammond’s VEM sound engine, a physical model derived from original Hammond design specifications. The engine recreates the behavior of a vintage tonewheel organ from generation through amplification, using 108 digital tonewheels routed through a modeled transformer and preamp before reaching either the onboard digital Leslie or a real rotary speaker via the 11-pin Leslie output.
The XK-7 manual is built to the same dimensions and fulcrum point as a classic B-3, delivering the correct leverage and resistance expected from a Hammond console. Each key uses six mechanical contacts, allowing traditional playing techniques such as glissandi, rapid repetition, and percussion-style articulation to respond naturally and consistently.
Detailed tone shaping is available through adjustable tonewheel parameters, dedicated key click and leakage controls, and preamp modeling inspired by vintage AO-series circuits. The enhanced digital Leslie includes adjustable gain, allowing natural overdrive and dynamic response that reacts to playing intensity and drawbar settings.
In addition to its tonewheel engine, the XK-7 includes a comprehensive transistor organ section with Italian, British, and Japanese-inspired models. The pipe organ division offers classical and theatre styles with multiple virtual ranks, voices, and tremulants, extending the instrument beyond traditional tonewheel territory.
A separate bass output can be assigned to pedal tones or configured as a low-pass filtered output for subwoofer reinforcement. A large color display simplifies access to performance parameters and system settings, while onboard DSP effects provide dedicated reverb and delay control directly from the top panel.
The Hammond XK-7 is a dedicated single-manual tonewheel organ designed to recreate the sound, response, and physical feel of a classic Hammond console. It is built around Hammond’s Virtual Electro-Mechanical (VEM) technology and optimized for professional performance.
Compared to the XK-3c, the XK-7 introduces a redesigned Virtual Electro-Mechanical sound engine with deeper physical modeling, a new six-contact keybed with longer keys and an authentic B-3 fulcrum point, expanded tonewheel control including dedicated key click and leakage adjustment, enhanced preamp and Leslie modeling, and broader transistor and pipe organ sections.
The XK-7 uses Hammond’s Virtual Electro-Mechanical (VEM) sound engine, a physical model based on original Hammond design principles that recreates tonewheel generation, signal interaction, transformer behavior, and vintage-style preamp response.
The XK-7 models 108 digital tonewheels, including high and pedal wheels, to accurately reproduce the harmonic structure and interaction of a vintage tonewheel organ.
The full-size manual matches original B-3 key dimensions and fulcrum point and uses six mechanical key contacts per key, enabling authentic Hammond techniques such as glissandi, fast repetition, and percussion-style articulation.
Yes. The XK-7 includes an 11-pin Leslie connector for direct connection to real rotary speaker cabinets, in addition to its onboard digital Leslie simulation.
Yes. Dedicated controls allow independent adjustment of key click and tonewheel leakage, making it possible to dial in subtle cleanliness or pronounced vintage character.
In addition to its tonewheel engine, the XK-7 includes an expanded transistor organ section with Italian, British, and Japanese-inspired models, plus a pipe organ division featuring classical and theatre styles.
Yes. The XK-7 provides a separate bass output that can be assigned to pedal tones or configured as a low-pass filtered output for subwoofer reinforcement.
The XK-7 includes onboard reverb and delay effects, accessible directly from the top panel and managed through a large color display.
