Sound so good that you forget you’re wearing headphones
One advantage of choosing a digital piano is that you can play with headphones on to keep your surroundings quiet. However, many people may find that their ears become fatigued if they play with headphones on for too long. One of the main reasons for this is that sound played directly into the ears is completely different from the natural sound of an actual piano. Binaural sampling solves this problem. This is a method of sampling in which special microphones are used in the same positions as the pianist’s ears to capture piano sounds the way that they sound in reality. Yamaha chose this method to create the ambience and full, natural resonance of acoustic pianos in Clavinova pianos. This makes pianists feel as though they are sitting at a grand piano even when they play with headphones on.
A variety of supportive functions and options for piano practice
CLP Series pianos feature 50 of the most famous classical pieces as well as 303 exercises by Hanon, Beyer, Czerny, and Burgmüller. Sheet music is also available for download and viewing on the Smart Pianist app. Try practicing with one hand at a time, or simply listen and enjoy. The CLP-800 Series is also compatible with the FC35 optional three-pedal unit, which functions as an auxiliary pedal for small children to practice pedaling. Simply place the FC35 on a suitable stand* or otherwise adjust it so that it sits in a position appropriate for your child’s height.
Grand Acoustic Imaging and other acoustic technology
A grand piano amplifies sound through its large soundboard and case, resonating throughout the surrounding space. In contrast, digital pianos rely on speakers, leading to different sound perceptions depending on the listener's position, a difference more pronounced in digital pianos than grand pianos. To address this, Yamaha has utilized its extensive acoustic piano manufacturing experience and advanced acoustic design technology to enhance the CLP-800 Series. By optimizing speaker placement, orientation, and volume balance across low, mid, and high frequencies, and incorporating diffusers, waveguides, and Bidirectional Horns, the design mimics the natural sound reverberation of a grand piano. Enjoy immersive sound on the CLP-875 through a revolutionary 3-way speaker system with diffuser technology.
GrandTouch keyboard
Yamaha's GrandTouch keyboard is designed to replicate the authentic feel of a grand piano. By fine-tuning the weight, materials, and internal mechanisms, Yamaha ensures that each keystroke—from powerful passages to delicate notes—feels incredibly realistic. GrandTouch delivers an unparalleled level of control and expression, so you can play with the same sensation and responsiveness as on a traditional grand piano. The GrandTouch keyboard's escapement provides a satisfying click when keys are pressed, a sensation unique to grand pianos. The CLP-875's keybed features wooden white keys, with synthetic ebony and ivory keytops for amazing playability.
GrandTouch™ pedals with GP Response Damper
Yamaha designed Clavinova GrandTouch pedals to resemble grand piano pedals and provide the same resistance. Additionally, the CLP-875 features a GP Response Damper pedal. The GP Response Damper not only simulates the resistance of grand piano dampers when the pedals first begin to take effect, but also accurately blend the tonal variation with the sensation of the dampers being raised off the strings with precision sensing of pedal depth. This allows players to practice proper pedaling—even half-pedaling—at all times. The combination of GrandTouch pedals and the GP Response Damper in the higher-end models of the CLP-800 Series enables more authentic, grand piano-like pedaling than ever before.
High-quality recordings of your own playing with ease
The recording function featured in the CLP-800 Series allows you to record your performances with a single touch, which is useful when you want to review your playing objectively. The CLP-875 features a 16-track song recorder that allows you to layer up to 16 different piano tracks on your recording, so different hands can be recorded separately or overdub parts with different voices. Recordings are made in MIDI format and can also be saved on a USB flash drive. Audio recording (.WAV format) is also possible when you connect a USB flash drive into the USB [TO DEVICE] terminal. Using Yamaha's Smart Pianist app, you can even record your performance in either Audio or MIDI format directly to your smart device.
Get more with the Smart Pianist app
Smart Pianist is a free application for use with Yamaha digital pianos that can create song data from PDF scores and then play it back, as well as analyze song data stored in your smart device and display chord progressions or piano accompaniment scores. The Bluetooth® MIDI function of the CLP-800 Series lets you connect to Smart Pianist wirelessly. Combining Smart Pianist with a CLP-800 Series piano makes it easier to enjoy playing the songs you want to play and increases your performance repertoire.
