Features Overview
Tone
The CN201 offers a highly detailed acoustic piano portrait, employing Kawai’s proprietary Progressive Harmonic Imaging sampling technology. This ensures smooth tonal transitions across the keyboard and throughout the entire dynamic range.
Touch
The new and improved class-leading Responsive Hammer III keyboard action on the CN201 authentically re-creates the exceptional touch of an acoustic grand piano. Its realistic movement and rigid “springless” design provide a smooth, natural piano playing experience. A triple-sensor key detection system enhances responsiveness and accuracy.
Ivory Touch Key Surfaces
The impressive CN201 features our highly regarded Ivory Touch key surfaces. This finely textured material gently absorbs fingertip perspiration and oils to avoid slipping and provide greater playing control. Moisture is absorbed without dirt or grease permeating the key surfaces, allowing them to be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Superior Sound
The new CN201 features a premium speaker and audio system which delivers improved tonal clarity and superior sound.
Song Recorder
The recorder on the CN201 allows up to three songs to be stored in internal memory and played back at the touch of a button. These recordings can serve as convenient self-assessment tools for players of all skill levels.
Bluetooth
In addition to standard USB and MIDI ports, the new CN Series also boast integrated Bluetooth Audio technology, which allows music streaming through the piano’s speaker system. Bluetooth MIDI technology is also incorporated, allowing the digital piano to communicate with supported smart devices wirelessly.
Concert Magic
This exclusive feature lets anyone enjoy the thrill of playing the piano, even if you’ve never played before.
Grand Feel Pedal System
The CN201 features three pedals – soft, sostenuto, and damper (with half-damper capability). The new Grand Feel Pedal System reproduces the individual weighting of each of the three pedals of the Kawai EX concert grand.
Adjustable Music Rest
As with a grand piano, the viewing angle of the CN201 music rest can be adjusted to suit the performer’s playing position or laid flat to provide a level surface for notating scores.

Frequently Asked Questions: CN201
Is the Kawai CN201 a good digital piano for beginners?
Yes, the CN201 is well suited to beginners while offering features that support long-term growth. Its Concert Magic feature lets new players perform recognizable songs immediately, and built-in Alfred lesson books, classical etudes, and Chopin waltzes provide structured learning material. The weighted keyboard action also builds proper technique from day one.
What key action does Kawai CN201 use? Does it feel like an acoustic piano?
The CN201 uses Kawai's Responsive Hammer III action with graded hammer weighting, so keys feel heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble, just like an acoustic grand. Triple-sensor key detection, let-off simulation, counterweights, and Ivory Touch key surfaces further recreate the authentic playing experience.
Does the Kawai CN201 have Bluetooth?
Yes, the CN201 includes both Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio. Bluetooth MIDI connects wirelessly to music apps for lessons, notation, and recording, while Bluetooth Audio lets you stream songs from a phone, tablet, or computer through the piano's built-in speakers.
What apps work with the Kawai CN201?
The CN201 is compatible with Kawai's PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer apps, available for both iOS and Android. PianoRemote lets you adjust settings and control the instrument from your device, while PiaBookPlayer provides access to lesson scores and sheet music. CN201 should also work with other apps that support bluetooth MIDI.
Can I practice quietly on the Kawai CN201?
Yes, the CN201 offers two headphone jacks (1/4" and 1/8") for silent practice. Kawai's exclusive Low Volume Balance feature also preserves tonal quality when playing at lower speaker volumes, so the piano still sounds full and natural during quiet practice sessions.
How is the Kawai CN201 different from other digital pianos in its class?
The CN201 brings features usually reserved for higher-end models, including the enhanced Shigeru Kawai concert grand sound, Progressive Harmonic Imaging with individual sampling of all 88 keys, and the Grand Feel Pedal System weighted to match Kawai's EX concert grand. It also adds a 2.5-inch OLED display and dual Bluetooth connectivity that many competitors lack at this level.
Can the Kawai CN201 record my playing?
Yes, the CN201 has a built-in MIDI song recorder that stores up to three songs in internal memory. Recording yourself is a great way to track progress, evaluate technique, and refine your expression, and saved performances can be played back instantly.
What is the Grand Feel Pedal System on the Kawai CN201
The Grand Feel Pedal System includes soft, sostenuto, and damper pedals, each individually weighted to match the feel and resistance of the pedals on Kawai's EX concert grand piano. Half-damper support is also included, allowing more precise expressive control during performance.
